Stenter machine process in textile:


The width of fabric is compressed through various processes like desizing, scouring, bleaching, mercerizing, dyeing, etc. The mechanical process by which this compressed width of the cloth is restored i.e. brought back to the pre-determined width and the cloth is dried, is called stenting. The machine with which the stenting process is done is called stenter or tenter machine. Stenters range from 60 feet to 120 feet in length and up to 72 inches in width. This machine has Clip shaped chains on both sides. These chains are driven by mechanical devices. The cloth is fastened to the clip of this chain. As a result, the cloth also moves forward through the chain.

Stenter machines are generally of two types. E.g.

1. Simple stenter

2. Hot air continuous stenter

Again, there are two types of stenters based on the heating system. E.g. –

(i) Steam heated stenter

(ii) Gas heated stenter

Gas heated stenters are commonly used for cotton polyester T/C fabrics.

Stenter machine process in textile-Functions of stenter machines:

The functions of the stenter machine are discussed below

1. Recovering the stretched length and width of the fabric as a result of various wet processing processes.

2. Applying finishing processes on the fabric such as starch, iron, etc.

3. Heat set on polyester/Lycra fabric.

4. Eliminate the feeling of wrinkles on the clothes.

5. Dry the clothes after washing.

Stentering process:

1. Simple stenter:

This method is usually used for stenting dry clothes. Only the size of the fabric is controlled by the simple stenter machine. This machine is a permanent hand frame machine. This machine has two parallel chains with a few rows of pins that hold the fabric. When the cloth is attached to the pin by hand, the cloth is stretched and stretched so that there is no fold in the cloth. Again some changes were made to the control system for the final size of the fabric. This method is still used for net and lace fabrics. A hand frame is usually placed in a warm room and gentle airflow is driven over the machine.

2. Hot air continnouwstenter:

A continuous stenter is a device consisting of a series of moving chains, which hold the edge of the fabric or the salvage directly and pull the fabric dry according to the specific fleet. This is a closed chamber stenter.

The stenter has a running pin chain and a suitable guide by which the cloth fleet is controlled. Automatic clip stenter is used as an alternative to pin stenter. Where the fabric is fastened with a spring clip and this is used to control the fabric. In this automatic clip method, the clips automatically move forward by grasping the salvage of the cloth in a precise fleet that can be controlled as required. The clip chain of this machine runs parallel to control the fleet of cloth. This machine is more commonly used for cotton and linen.

Modern stenters use a stream of hot air to dry wet clothes. The heat generated by the steam coil or electric heater is dissipated in all the cells of the stent as hot air by the fan air. As a result, the cloth dries out. This heating system is placed in a layer of cloth.
