Singeing definition necessity importance and Types. singeing is the process of burning all the projecting fibers, hairy fibers, yarns, or loose threads on the surface of the cloth. The surface of the cloth is smooth as a result of singeing. The mercerized fabric can be promoted to maximum brightness. Fabric singeing is a must to make the perfect design on the fabric. Otherwise, a dull pattern will be observed on the fabric.

For this, singeing is considered as a very important and vital process from the point of view of mercerizing and printing. singeing can be done on one side or both sides of the fabric as required. It is necessary to dry the cloth with the help of a steam-heated cylinder before singeing. This is because wet clothes are more likely to burn than dry clothes. The importance of operator efficiency is immense so that the fabric is not damaged during singeing. Fabrics are usually moved very fast through a singeing machine to protect the fabric from any danger of fire sparks.

Singeing definition necessity importance and Types-The necessity of Singeing:

The need for singeing is discussed below

1. Burns projecting fibers, hairy fibers, and yarn heads from the surface of the fabric singeing is needed to make the fabric smooth, even, and clean.

2. To Increases the maximum brightness of mercerized fabric to make the fabric more attractive There is the necessity of singeing.

3. Singeing is essential to help bring out the perfect design in the fabric during printing.

4. Singeingis necessary to prevent uneven dyeing and printing on the fabric.

Singeing definition necessity importance and Types-Importance of Singeing:

After collecting the gray cloth from the loom, the cloth is Singeingbefore wet processing. The surface of the fabric shows unevenness due to the presence of unwanted hairy fibers, projecting fibers on the surface of the fabric which causes severe inconvenience in the subsequent wetting process. The importance of the singeing process is immense to keep the surface of the cloth balanced, smooth, and clean by burning all these unwanted fibers and yarn heads.

In addition, when the fabric is singeing, it reduces the shade variation in its dyeing with the convenience of subsequent processing and guarantees a bright and perfect design in printing. Singeing increases the maximum brightness of the fabric and makes the fabric more attractive. Therefore, the importance of singeing from the point of view of mercerizing and printing is undeniable.

Types of Singeing Process:

Singeing can usually be done by three types of singeing machines. E.g.

(A) Plate singeing machine

(B) Rotary cylinder singeing machine

(C) Gas singeing machine

(A) Plate singeing machine: In a plate singeing machine, a pair of heated copper plates can be used to singeing the cloth.

(B) Rotary cylinder singeing machine: In a rotary cylinder singeing machine the fabric is singeing with the help of a heated rotating cylinder made of copper or cast iron.

(C) Gas singeing machine: In a gas singeing machine, by making loops in the fabric with the help of multiple gas burners, both sides of the fabric can be singeing simultaneously.

Different Processes of Singeing:

1. Plate Singeing:

In this type of singeing method, the fabric is passed over a pair of heated copper plates. Below is a furnace or other conventional heating system to heat the copper plate. The cloth is passed over a copper plate along the width so that the projecting fiber, hairy fiber, etc. sticks to the cloth and burns. Here is only one side of the cloth singeing. The speed of such a machine is 140 yards to 225 yards per minute. This singeing is not in use at present.

2. Cylinder singeing:

This is a version of a lot of plate singeing. In this method, the cloth is passed over a heated copper or cast iron cylinder. As a result, the projecting fibers, hair fibers, etc. in the cloth are burnt in the vicinity of the rotating heated cylinder. Here both surfaces of the fabric can be singing at the same time.

3. Gas singeing:

Gas singeing is one of the most convenient methods of singeing. This method can be used to remove waste by projecting fiber, hairy fiber, etc. on both the surfaces of the fabric at the same time with the help of a gas burner. Here the gas burner can be controlled based on the spread and thickness of the fabric. With the help of this machine, 150 yards to 400 yards of cloth can be singing per minute. The use of this method is maximum.
