Definition and assessment of sewability in textile:

Sewing yarn is one of the things that depend on the quality of the garment. Frequent tearing of yarn while sewing garments on the one hand disrupts quantitative production and on the other hand has a direct effect on the quality of garments. It is to be noted here that the sewing machine moves the sewing thread through the needle at a speed of 140 to 165 mph while the sewing machine is running. The strength of the yarn can be reduced by 2-32% by friction with various parts of the sewing machine and cloth. Therefore, the characteristics of the yarn should be checked before buying sewing yarn.

Definition and assessment of sewability in textile-Definition of Sewability:

The sewing ability of yarn is called sewability. To determine the sewing ability of the yarn, 100 yards long stitches were made with 3 yarn packages from one lot, and the running performance of the machine was recorded. The main objective of this test is to determine the maximum speed of a sewing machine under normal conditions, and the ability to make flawless and beautiful sewing in each yarn.

Definition and assessment of sewability in textile-Assessment of Sewability:

The qualities of yarn that should be tested for determining the sewability of yarn are discussed below:

1. Thread Strength:

If the strength of the yarn is not adequate, the yarn will break frequently during sewing, which will reduce the efficiency and productivity of the sewing machine, and will greatly disrupt the quality of the product. Therefore, it is essential to test the strength of the sewing thread.

2. Imperfection:

If there is a Thick, Thin, Knot, Naps, or Slub in places in the yarn, the yarn will break from time to time. As a result, both the production of sewing machines and the quality of garments will be disrupted.

3. Finish:

Yarn finish means lubricant. The lubricant also helps the yarn to move easily through the needle eye and various guides of the machine. The amount of lubricant in the yarn can range from 3 to 15%. The amount of this lubricant should be the same rate in each yarn package of a lot. Otherwise, there may be various problems while sewing.

4. Color of yarn:

The sewing thread should have color balance. The yarn must match any color pattern and the color of the yarn of the same lot should not vary too much, which may affect the quality of the fabric.

5. Package density of yarn:

The density of the yarn should not vary from one package or cone to another. Frequent adjustment of yarn tension will reduce the efficiency and productivity of the machine.

6. Winding:

The yarn should be spread evenly in the yarn package under proper tension. Otherwise, the yarn may be torn from time to time due to entanglement in the yarn coming from the package during sewing. As a result, both production and product quality may suffer.

7. Yardage:

The length of yarn in a yarn package must be within (+ -) 2% of the specified length. Otherwise, the package may be canceled on trial.
