The basic idea of scouring process definition purposes methods:

Introduction:

Scouring is the removal process of waste from fabrics, such as oil, grease, wax, and chemical products, including starch, used during sizing. The purpose of the scouring wet process is to remove natural and synthetic impurities from the textile products, increase the absorption capacity of the fabric and make it suitable for subsequent processes i.e. bleaching, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes. Above all, after scouring, the cloth is cleaned, the water absorption capacity is increased and it becomes useful for dyeing, printing, and finishing. https://bdfabric.com/textile-desizing-process-definition-purposes-classification/

The basic idea of the scouring process -Definition of scouring:

The process of removing oil, grease, wax, and waste from textile products using alkali or detergent and increasing the cleaning and water absorption capacity of textile products is called scouring. https://bdfabric.com/classification-and-description-of-singeing-machine/

The basic idea of the scouring process -Purposes of scouring:

1. Eliminate natural and other wastes from textile products.

2. To increase the water absorption capacity of textile products.

3. Clean the cloth with alkali.

4. Prepare fabric for the next process i.e. bleaching, dyeing, printing, and finishing.

Methods of scouring:

Scouring work is usually solved using three methods.

1. Saponification

2. Emulsification

3. Detergency

1. Saponification:

Fabrics contain oils, fats, and waxes that are not soluble in water. Therefore, to remove the fat, oil, and wax, i.e. the impurities present in the cloth, it has to be brought to the water soluble level. Bringing the above insoluble matter into a soluble state by saponification method. For example, fat and oil are heated in water by NaOH to get fatty acids and glycerin. Glycerin is soluble in water and reacts with fatty acid sodium hydroxide to form sodium salts and soaps which are soluble in water.

2. Emulsification:

The saponification method does not remove wax and mineral oil. This wax and mineral oil is removed by the emulsification method. General washing soaps, usually with sodium hydroxide and wetting agents, are good emulsifying agents. Emulsification is the separation of waste products by spraying in water with the help of an emulsifying agent.

3. Detergency:

Removal of oil through saponification and emulsifying oil and mineral oil, china clay, and other hard impurities such as dust and dirt remain as sizing products in the fabric, which is followed by the use of detergents in the scouring method. Soap is an excellent detergent. Good detergents again act as good wetting agents. “Detergency is the removal of heavy waste by scattering with the help of detergent.”
