Basic dyes definition properties in textile-Introduction:

The first basic dye was discovered by Henry Perkin in 1956. The name of his discovered dyestuff is Mauve. Basic dyes are usually ionic but not like direct dyes and acids. Basic dyes are ionized to produce colored cations and colorless anions. Basic dyes contain amino or substitute amino groups.

Such as NH2, – NH (CH3), – N (CH3)2 – N (C2H5)2 the colored part of the dye is free or prepared from substituted amino groups. Since these colors are organic, they are usually insoluble in water. Hydrochlorides, Oxalate, Acetate, Sulphate, Zinc chloride, etc. in these dye bases provide solubility by making salts at the base. The basic dye can usually be used to dye jute, silk, and acrylic fibers. Basic dyes light and washing fastness are extremely low.

(1) Basic dye insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohol, methylated, spirit, and acetic acid.

(2) The tectorial power of this type of dye is very high.

(3) When this dye is in colored form, then it reacts with strong alkali and then produces a Free dye base which is colorless.

(4) Basic dye is reduced to a colorless compound if it is reduced by a reducing agent like Na2S2O4. However, if oxidized in the presence of an acid, it returns to its previous state i.e. Returns the colored form.

(5) The main feature of Basic Dye is that it is a Dye of a very bright nature, some Shade is so clear that it cannot be compared with other Dye.

(6) Some of these dyes, boiling water is dissolved. Therefore, it is usually necessary to keep the temperature at 60°C- 65°C to solve these dyes.

(7) It has no direct affinity to cotton or cellulosic fiber. That is why cellulose cannot be dyed directly by the basic dye. However, cotton can be dyed by mordanting agents.

(8) Jute fiber has a direct attraction and can be easily dyed.

(9) The durability of basic dye is good in the case of synthetic fiber, especially acrylic fiber.
